...providing a communication environment in which clients may efficiently, effectively, comfortably and safely perform their duties... The Networks and Facilities Department is made up of two sections, namely the
Wide Area
Network (WAN) and the Local Area
Network (LAN) teams.
The main functions of the Networks and Facilities Department (N & F) are as follows:
Essential to allowing for proper connectivity and functionality, is a network design that incorporates and adheres to Networking standards and procedures. To achieve this objective, documents specifying the requirements are prepared, and they play a key role in the procurement process for goods and services. We also develop and implement infrastructural solutions in order to provide network services to our clients. We also undertake the installation and maintenance of client sites as well as the integration of hardware and software for clients. By periodically checking systems and their requirements, proposals for hardware upgrade and/or new equipment for FSL WAN and LAN are submitted. The provision of technical consultancy to in-house users and to the RSC, and the facilitation of network development, make up the other functions of the department. The provision and monitoring of systems and procedures with reference to standards, ameliorates success and reliability. Network Administration, both wide and local, ensures speedy fault recovery and assistance. Finally, but by no means least, is the Documentation process. This entails keeping records of any activity relating to the customers, the network, and the services provided. |
